Lightness

I know that by saying this I am risking death by way of stoning by Steriogram fans but I am not crazy about the new album, This is Not The Target Market. Don't get me wrong, I love "Go" and "Be Good To Me" (an uncharacteristicly funk infused emoish song) but to me it seems like they're leaning away from their signature chill, more thoughtful and clear sound displayed on their debut "Schmack", and into unknown territory where metal meets screamo and stoners can head bang until their necks get sore. I'm not loving it.

Sorry I haven't been posting; I've been swamped with work and school and stuff like that. I mean I've been so wrapped up in a project about the American Revolution I've begun thinking that King George and The Stamp Acts would be a kick arse band name. Am I delusional? Perhaps. But we'll discuss that later.

Erm, is it just me or is Ben Lee so boss? I want to post "Catch My Disease" (which was orignally on his "Morning Becomes Eclectic" 2005 album but was rereleased with a more curbed Australian accent on "Awake is the New Sleep") again but I can't. I just can't. I WILL post the incredibly low budget and low quality music video for my other favorite Ben Lee song "Gamble Everything For Love". Is it just me or does he suck as a lipsyncher? Oh well. He makes up for it in cuteness. Aw.

I just feel so bad for him with this song. Quite a bit of a difference from his upbeat-errrr- infectious "Catch My Disease" (forgive me) but still beautiful with the Ben Lee romanticism he sprinkles on every Aussss-tray-lay-ahn infused track. FUN FACT: Did you know that Ben Lee was with going out with Claire Danes for awhile back in '03? I wonder if she's the girl who "told him 'bout the winds from Santa Ana".

For more Ben you can check out two of his best compilation/covers: Float On (originally by Modest Mouse) done by Ben Lee. You can find this song on the John Tucket Must Die soundtrack, a movie I did not and will not see due to my will to not add to the paycheck of the questionably hetero antaganist played by Jesse Metcalf. A guy who tweezes his eyebrows? No thank you.
Anyway, another great listen is "Bruised" by (get this) The Bens!!!!! Ben Kweller, Ben Folds, and Ben frickin Lee!! This is so very exciting for me to share with you as I am an avid listener of all three Bens. Right now I'm in Ben heaven and you can get "Bruised" from Itunes on the Ben's EP entitled (shocker) "The Bens- EP". (For Ben action download albums "Sha Sha" by Ben Kweller and and (see I'm so excited I'm stuttering) "Saving Silverman" or "Rockin' The Suburbs" by Ben Folds).

Phew. I'm all Ben-ed out.

Until next time,
Kit

P.S. Listening to:Orange Sky by Alexi Murdoch. Something feels very Smith like about Alexi. He should consider that a compliment.
