Stranger Than Fiction

I was quite doubtful and more than slightly skeptical at first when I heard of this band but a friend convinced me to give into the hype and I am steady growing to like them better and better. Say it with me: Harry and The Potters (not to be confused with Harry Potter Puppet Pals, a personal favorite of mine). That's right, your favorite mythical hero translated into music with songs about things like potions and Voldermort, issues ever plauging today's society. These slightly nerdy (but completely cool) teenagers from Massachusetts came up with the band and several songs in just one afternoon, playing their first concert only hours later. So it's not exactly great sound quality, as their parent's living room doubles as a recording studio, but it's not bad for garage band rock. To sample a taste of their...um...unique style there are a few free mp3s available for download. I suggest starting with their best song (Save Ginny Weasly). But you know, it's just becoming quite the craze, there's even a music video (with clips from the movie) on youtube. Harry and the Potters are now touring across America, so try to catch them at a library/college/art gallery in your town.

Another indie band that I've discovered (that I've been following for awhile) is: it's a hit. My favorite songs are "Payphones are My Best Friends" and "I'm the Inconvience" and also "Some People Just...". There isn't much information about this band but what we do know is that they are from Mcallen, Texas and are a couple (Andy, vocals and guitar and Nicky, drums) that can rock out like Death Cab for Cutie, Sufjan Stevens, and The Arcade Fire. Check them out at myspace.com/itsahitlovesyou

more later,

kit

p.s. summer's almost done. i can hardly feel it, it went by so quickly, but i wouldn't trade this one for any other.

p.p.s. photos depict neil (short film maker/co-creator of Harry Potter Puppet Pals/founder of Lemon Demon (cool band)) on a broom and in a tree (with said broom). thanks neil!!!
