Last Nite

Okay, last night (title of post being a Strokes refrence) we went to see Death Cab for Cutie at the Garden. Though we missed the openers (Ted Leo and the Pharmacists') set I heard they were fantastic, but the Death Cab set was unequivilent to anything I've ever personally witnessed. The words awestruck and insane come to mind when I try to describe that concert but you must understand that no words can measure the amazing music that was produced. The set list went a little something like this:

Bands of Manhattan
The New Year
We Laugh Indoors
Why’d You want to Live here
Crooked Teeth
Title and Registration
Lightness
Photobooth
Soul Meets Body
We Looked Like Giants
The Sound of Settling

ENCORE
I Will Follow You into the Dark
"I'm Going Home" by the Sonics
Your Heart is An Empty Room
Transatlanticism

Curiously Chris Walla's guitar during "Sound of Settling" sounded kind of strange (no time to tune during laps between the synthysizer and guitar? Tsk, tsk, roadies!), but truthfully, I don't think anyone in that arena gave a crap (I didn't!). And the fact that more than half of the audience was stoned out of their senses probably didn't add to that specific feature...but no matter. Walla and Nick Harmer were both doing their siganture backward walks and leaps which added to the energy and intensity of the crowd's excitement. A definite high point was "We Looked Like Giants" which included a ten minute break of vocals during which Ben Gibbard got on ANOTHER drum set (in addition to the one official drummer Jason McGerr was already beating) and he went insane! I have the video for you here:

Isn't that the sickest? Between the explosive action of the songs and the ever-bantering Ben Gibbard about gestulating with corn on the cob (you had to be there) it was pretty much one of the greatest nights of my life. Oh, and by the way, we walked past the site of some premiere that winded down and we passed Elijah Wood walking in the street. Not as big a deal as Death Cab but still something worth mentioning, no?

As Ben Gibbard said following the final song,

Thanks for coming guys, see ya soon,

Kit

P.S. One of my other favorites they did (Crooked Teeth) was amazing but the person who filmed this should not take up a career as a camera person because the quality is semi-shoddy. Try to ignore the screeching fans trying to prove that they are as fantastic vocalists as Ben Gibbard (I assure you, they aren't) and concentrate on the music and the stellar light show. One final thought- Forgive me but I'm pretty sure one of those hysterical screams is mine.

I am just wondering which scream was yours... It was interesting to read about some things that I wasn't told at least twice! You know I'm kidding...
