Fidelity
What a holiday it has been, saturated with Bing, Dean, and somehow, the omnipresent Beck. Lucky me, I got a pretty good haul so I'm not complaining. I've actually totally updated my Ipod playlist (can you spell N-A-N-O??) so hear are a few essentials essential to....me...
"Walk In The Park" - Oh No! Oh My! (Oh No! Oh My! is different from everything you've heard, but at the same time, reminiscent of everything you've heard. The self titled album may be one of the best of the year.)
"Phantom Limb" - The Shins (Although I've already mentioned this about fifteen times, let's make it sixteen. I've got "Wincing the Night Away" on pre-order. Yep, that's right, a CD. I'm going old school.)
"What Ever Happened" - The Strokes (Need I say ANYTHING about the Strokes?)
"Brother" - Annuals (The begining is way softer, folkier, woodsier, and more lyric based than you would think the music is from the comparisons that have been of the North Carolina native band to Arcade Fire and Animal Collective)
"How Soon Is Now" - The Smiths (God, I have been getting so into the Smiths lately. "I am human and I want to be lo-oved."....)
"Lola"- The Raincoats (The best cover I have seen of this song so far by an unconventional cheeky chick band in the late 70's)
"Hong Kong Garden" - Siouxsie and the Banshees (The sound is almost as big as Sioux's hair. Almost. And the string intro is crazy)
"Mothers, Sisters, Daughters & Wives" - Voxtrot (They may be another Texan indie group, but Voxtrot's tight sound is enough to set them somewhat apart from the others)
"Sick" - SSM (This is for you classic rock junkies. Though real rock and roll is hard to find these days, you can practically taste it in this 60's flavored track)
"All My Heroes Are Weirdos" - !!! (Yeah, I'm not quite sure how to pronounce the band name either...)
"Long Distance Call" -Pheonix (French indie rockers are channeling the Strokes in their sophmore album named for one a line in "Long Distance Call": "It's Never Been Like That")
"I Wanna Be Your Dog" -Iggy Pop and the Stooges (This song makes me feel like such a bada$s.
If you've seen pre-SNL Andy Samburg and Co.'s video on The Lonely Island website you'll understand- aw, I'd better just show you. It's pretty long so skip ahead to 9:28 if you want but some parts of the spoof sitcom are entertaining. Some are not.)
Yep so that's about it. Until next time,
Kit
P.S. Actually listen to the lyrics in Regina Spektor's "Fidelity". Amazing.
